Hi! I am Melissa Garcia, a professional photographer.
My portrait studies run contrary to what photos have become. By peeling away the filters and heavy edits, I reveal portrait studies that capture people just as they are--beautiful, interesting, and loved. My first love is medium format photography and the dark room. With film, you are forced to slow down and consider every detail before the click of the camera. In the dark room, you spend time thinking about highlights and shadows, how to bring out contrast and details all of which results in a perfect print. My professional protrait work is digital but I conitnue to bring the same attention to detail to my digital work that I do to my medium format film work.
While my commission work primarily consists of in- studio portrait studies, my curiosity has led to the creation of a wide body of work--from pet portraiture to sports, food, and interior photography.
Just before Covid Lockdown, I worked on a special project entitiled "The Wrestling Tournament." I'm a mom to two wrestlers and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would come to love the sport for the courgage, strength, and determination that it demands of it's athlets.
I am currently working on a long term project entitled "Make Believe" that explores the lives of children in their make believe worlds.
I have also partnered with @gooddogarlo to fundraise for some of our favorite animal charities by doing pet portrait mini sessions. in New England. Born and raised in Texas. I have lived in Washington, D.C., New York City, and now call Cambridge home. I am a mom to 3 wonderful and fast growing boys, and I know how fast life can move. Let’s work together!
